Guided tour by Barnes Foundation Picasso Research Fellow Naina Saligram on the liberation of color in Cézanne, Matisse, and other pioneers of modern French art.
The history of modern art is often charted as the progressive "liberation of color" from the project of mimetic representation. Join us at the Barnes Foundation for close-looking at seminal works in this history by artists including Cézanne, Seurat, and Matisse as we consider the complex relationship between aesthetic and social freedom in late nineteenth and early twentieth-century France. Tickets include access to the Barnes collection for the full day.
